This course is aimed at beginners but I am happy to adapt to suit your needs and preferred focus. We will begin by making our own spindles and having a go at spinning on them. We will then explore different types of fibre and their preparations whilst also learning to spin on a spinning wheel. There will be the option to use a selection of other fibre preparation equipment, such as hand carders and wool combs, if desired.
What You will learn:
The main focus will be learning to spin on the spinning wheel. However, you will also have a chance to learn how to prepare fibre ready for spinning in a variety of ways. There will also be a chance to explore and use different types of pre-prepared fibres and study a raw fleece.
What you will need to bring
If you have your own wheel that you would like to learn on then you are welcome to bring this, although spinning wheels will be available. Everything else is provided.
What we supply
Resources to make your own spindle , a wheel to practise on during the course, fibres and fleece to spin.
I am a qualified teacher and, after teaching primary school for 13 years, I decided to give it up. However , I didn’t want to leave the teaching behind completely so, after completing the ‘Guild of Spinners and Weavers Foundation Certificate in Spinning' I decided to start teaching something I am very passionate about – spinning yarn.
