Workshop one – Crosswheels

This is a lovely introduction to the 17th Century craft of button making, where you will learn the basic construction technique and traditional stitches used to create traditional crosswheel style buttons.

Having mastered the basics, we will also look at how the use of different bases, yarns and the addition of stitching and beads can create some truly contemporary applications.

 

You will need:

Small sharp scissors, if you have them

 

Workshop 2 – SINGLETONS

This workshop will explore the alternative traditional Dorset buttons, originating from some of the very first buttons to be produced in Dorset, and which are affiliated to the Singleton family.

You will learn the construction techniques for this style of button and we will look at how the styles can be adapted and given a contemporary twist.

 

You will need:

Small sharp scissors, if you have them

 

What will be provided:

All the materials to make these buttons

 

Level: Hand sewing skills.
