Men's Beginning Sewing Course
This series of workshops has been designed for men who are either interested in trying sewing with a machine for the first time or for those who have some experience but would like a refresher. The lessons will take place in a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of support and guidance.
During the first lesson, we will get to grips with the sewing machine and its features. Following on from this, we will be sewing a pair of PJ bottoms and finally, we will tackle a T shirt.
Skills you will learn:
· Familiarising yourself with the features of a sewing machine
· Filling a bobbin
· Threading a machine
· Sewing a seam
· Laying out a pattern and cutting fabric
· Sewing PJ bottoms inc. elastic
· Sewing with stretch jersey
You will need:
For the PJ bottoms; 2.5m of cotton fabric from a roll of 110cm+ wide (an old duvet would be great!)
For the T shirt; 1.5m stretch jersey fabric (Stretch knit fabric such as interlock and jersey, with 25% stretch; this project is not suitable for Lycra or very stretchy jersey.)
A sewing machine in working order. If you have trouble providing a machine, please let us know as there are some available in the shop.
