All of our workshops are currently on hold.
We will be starting again as soon as we are allowed and feel is it safe to do so.
If you would like to be the first to know when a new date for this workshop is available please email us with the workshop name and your details.
In this full day workshop, you will start the day with beautiful fabric and end with an even more beautiful skirt. Through a combination of clear demonstrations, handouts and general support, you will learn and experience a number of skirt making skills.
Choose from three different skirts patterns to suit your skill level.
The three patterns to choose from:
1. “The Libby A-line” This is perfect for the beginner dressmaker, offering great skills to learn but a simple easy-to-wear style
2. “The Brumby Skirt” by Megan Neilson. This can be adapted to suit the beginner or more confident dressmaker. With three options, you can choose which suits your style/sewing ability.
3. “Arielle Skirt” by Tilly and the Buttons. This figure hugging skirt requires a perfect fit and is great for practising buttonholes. This is definitely for the more confident sewist.
When deciding on your pattern please discuss with us your sewing level and we can guide you to the best pattern.
Your sewing will generally follow this plan; to start with you will discuss your patterns, you will be taught how to measure properly and choose which size you will be making. From there you will be guided through the tracing of your pattern, pinning to your fabric and transferring markings from your pattern onto your fabric. Then it is time to cut.
You may get further than this or be at this point when we will break for lunch. You can purchase food from the gorgeous Column bakehouse downstairs or feel free to bring a packed lunch and make the most of the beautiful RWY. The break will be for 30 mins.
In the afternoon you will continue to sew your chosen skirt. As in the morning, you will be shown demonstrations and guided.
What you will learn includes: (depending on which skirt you make)
Selecting the correct size for you
Cutting out pattern from fabric
Transferring pattern markings
Seam neatening techniques
Inserting a zip
Inserting a seam pocket
